The VanCity Book Prize for best book pertaining to women's issues was co-supported by VanCity, the Government of British Columbia, Vancouver Public Library and B.C. BookWorld newspaper.

It was founded in 1992 as a joint project by B.C. BookWorld, VanCity and the Vancouver Public Library. The VanCity Book Prize annually provided a $3000 award from VanCity to the winner, with an additional $1000 from the provincial Ministry of Women's Services to be donated to the B.C. charitable organization of the winner's choosing.

There were no entry fees or entry forms. The judging was done by one representative from VanCity, one representative from the Vancouver Public Library and one representative from BC BookWorld [generally Women in Print Bookstore]. The award was presented in early autumn at the Vancouver Public Library. The coordinator was Alan Twigg of B.C. BookWorld.

The first two winners, Barbara Woodley (1993) and Sheila Baxter (1992)
